In December 2016, at the foot of the Lascaux hill, the International Cave Painting Centre was officially opened. It offers the public a complete facsimile of the original cave using virtual reality technologies. Visitors also discover cave painting around the world and the civilisation of Cro-Magnon man.

The cultural offering and programme of events bring together the highest level of scientific expertise and a true determination to make the cave accessible to each and every visitor.

The facility is centred around the reproduction of the Lascaux cave and the use of new image and virtual reality technologies for the purposes of outreach.

The Montignac International Cave Painting Centre is an important site for tourism and culture, highlighting the value of cave painting and bringing it to the general public through painted and engraved representations located in the Lascaux cave.

This new space welcomes visitors and invites them to contemplate and feel the true emotion of discovering the cave, to learn to observe it, to ask questions about it, and think about the environmental and cultural context in which it was fashioned.
